And last but not least, if you find yourself in Healdsburg, California we are always pouring Sexy Wine Bomb at the popular & fabulous Vintage Wine Estates tasting room.
Be honest, aren't you just slapping a cutesy label on some cheap bulk wine from Argentina or Chile or something and passing it off as your own?
Not just no, but hell no! Our wines are made by us, in Sonoma County, and we manage the process from the vineyard to your lips (well ok maybe not quite that far but almost). Our first blend is a little fruity and a little spicy and designed to be loved. Kind of like Ricky Martin.
Wow, who are the masterminds behind all this awesomeness?
Founded in 1852 by Franco-Italian immigrants -- ah who are we kidding? Sexy Wine Bomb is a labor of love on behalf of a small but hardcore gang of winery renegades in and around Sonoma County, hell-bent on a mission to wrestle wine away from the hands of the way-too-serious. The wine itself is made by legendary winemaker Nancy Walker (Geyser Peak, Clos du Bois, Fetzer, Stephen & Walker) who is off-the-charts on the standard awesomeness scale. We have a lot of fun at this, and if you are so inclined you can read more about us right here.
What is a blend and why does it have more fun?
This is a great question. A "blend" is simply a combination of wine made of different grapes. Casual drinkers often assume this means the wine is somehow inferior to a "pure" varietal (e.g. Cabernet , Pinot Noir) and that perception is probably not helped by that awful term "table wine." But in reality the opposite is often the case...a blend allows the winemaker to express her mastery of the art, to create a great wine without the limitations of a "pure" varietal.
But you don't have to trust us on this one...the famous French Bordeaux wines are all blends. And it's rumored the French know like, tons about wine.
See? We make learning fun!
Your wine is called “Blends Have More Fun” are you saying that blondes are better than women with other hair color?
Not even close. Yes, it’s a play off that phrase, but really, the beauty of a blend is that a winemaker can make it anything she wants, no rules apply. Plus, have you seen Katie? Her hair ranges from flaming red to strawberry blonde depending on what stage of the coloring cycle you see her at. Gingers represent!
Hey, your logo looks like the "trucker flap" girl!
Duh.
Isn't that logo kind of sexist?
Only if you let it be.
No really, we get this a lot. If the whole thing had been concepted by Ray and his buddies after a trip to Vegas, Katie might even agree with you. However, we have a different take, and it comes down to having fun, enjoying being your smart, sexy self...and not taking anything too seriously.
So we took something traditionally "owned" by a group of males that some might generalize into the category of "sexist" (the "trucker flap" girl) and put her on her own two feet... in a kick ass pair of stilettos, with a bottle of tasty wine in her hand, leaning against a bomb - a bomb for which we’d like to think she controls the fuse..
And we feel it's important to note, not only is she wearing a dress (unlike the "trucker flap" girl), but we were particularly sensitive to ensure we feature 100% nipple-free artwork.
I generally prefer to drink Bordeaux from the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France, where I often find flavor notes that capture the soul of the soil, which start out gently and proceed to embrace my palate with a stronger grip. Is Sexy Wine Bomb right for me?
Doubtful.
Is it true that the Sexy Wine Bomb softball team beat
the matching pants off of Rodney Strong in the winery league?
Hell yeah we did!
Not only that, but we also showed Silver Oak Winery who was boss…they can have their fancy, expensive Cabernets, we’ll take the win please. And looking forward to another strong season! Be on the lookout for the complete “Sexy Schedule” if you’d like to check out a game.
